Kino a good video editor for Linux

Linux has saved me yesterday.

I had an old camera of sony (sony handycam DCR-HC20E)

and several tapes in miniDV format that I wanted to convert to AVI.

I have a old computer (Asus Laptop series L about 2003-2004 year) and  in this computer there is present the miniDV port (firewire) the same port of the video camera:

In this computer run Ubuntu 12.04 and I have used the program Kino to get the video and convert it in AVI.
It worked really well.
